Art and Wine After Dark

The brand new Main Street Art Gallery on Main St. in Fortuna, hosted its first “Art and Wine After Dark” event on Friday night fom 6 to 9 p.m.  The gallery featured work by owner Carlos “Chuck” Bowden, including 84 drawings in pencil and ball-point pen on mediums as diverse as ostrich eggs, clay poker chips and fossilized ivory (not to mention quite a few on paper).

We had a great time going to this inaguaral event with our exchange student, Emilio.  Emilio is studying art in his quest to study for a career in mechanical drawing.  Chuck Bowden's art is a great inspiration for him.

Fortuna having a full-time art gallery with opening night receptions is a great edition to the Friendly City.

And even better that the first exhibit did not consist of paintings of flowers and photographs of Trindad Head. Fantastic!

Spence: I totally agree!!! That's what made Chuck Bowden's exhibit so wonderful. They talk about time periods in art where the artists of a region all paint with the same influence. Well, Humboldt and Mendocino sure falls into that category. Except for people like Jesse Weidell, Julie Frith, Robb Rierdon and others like them. And I know nothing about art. Just what I like and don't like. And northcoast landscapes and natural flora and fauna are wearing out their welcome. But, that's just one opinion.
