Everything's Coming Up Roses

The University of Oregon Ducks won the Rose Bowl.  We attended a little gathering to watch the game and decided we would take something edible that represented the team.   Kate is an alum of Oregon and owns a 1947 cookbook published by the U. of O. mothers.  As we poured through the pages of recipes looking for just the perfect item we had to sometimes just stop and chuckle.   The compilation of recipes were all from former sorority members during the hey-day of Greek social organizations.   Some of the titles of the recipes were Bachelor Bait Cake and  Matrimony Cake and something called Jellied Pork and Veal Loaf.  And just what is "scant" when used to describe a measurement?  We ultimately decided to go on our own and made Green and Yellow frosted sugar cookies with phrases like "Go Ducks" or "Love My Ducks" and "Quack Attack".    But, one day, I am going to whip open that U. of O. Mothers cookbook and surprise Kate with a batch of Baked Ring Tum Tiddy with a side of Liver Sausage Aspic and Squash Coffee Custard Pie for dessert.  Yum.

Don't forget to bake some quackers to go with aspic and while your at it your might run by Safeway and buy a bottle of Duckhorn Chardonay to wash it all down with.
