It's an Above The Fold observation that if you give much more to your community by volunteering, joining service clubs and helping with non-profit fundraising efforts, you probably have a better chance of winning elections than by politicking alone. Do you want to better your community, then pick up a shovel or flip a pancake. (Er, if you do pick up a shovel, make sure you have the proper permitting.)
