5-4-3-2-1 zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Spence:

For the past 30 years, I have had my New Year's Eve planned for me.  This year is only the second time in three decades I have not spent December 31st playing music in a club or social hall for celebrants.   So, I have completely turned off thinking about ways to celebrate the evening with Kate. Valentines Day, her birthday, Christmas, vacation getaways, even the anniversary of our first date are all planned in advance with much thought.  But, here I sit just one day away from a big celebratory day going, "meh"

In my opinion, New Year's Eve is amateur night for people going out.

So, Kate asked me what I would like to do this year to celebrate New Year's Eve since I didn't have to work. It dawned on me that I might seem selfish about the matter if I didn't want to go out. Perhaps she would like us to get dressed up in our finery, enjoy a evening of sophisticated dining, dancing and horn-tooting.  Honestly, I would rather hide out in a darkened movie theater with my best friend holding hands and escaping all of that chicanery. Then, catch a little Mary Tyler Moore Show on television and be asleep by 10:15pm.

Kate:  I've always felt a lot of pressure to have the perfect New Year's Eve...and of course the big night never lives up to the hype (for me).  When I was a kid, my parents woke us up and we went outside on the deck and hit pans with wooden spoons to mark the magical midnight hour.  Now THAT'S a great way to ring in the new year!  I'm all for a movie in town (with popcorn of course) and falling asleep at 10:15...I'm with ya Spence.  Don't forget we will be walking at Rohner Park at 9 a.m. on New Year's Day!

P.S.  Didn't you always love the Andre Champagne commercials leading up to New Year's Eve?

Becky, you and Bud have a wonderful New Year, too. Hope to share a pancake or two with you guys after the Polio Walk. Did you hear about Kristabel and Mark? In Arizona, of all places.
