I am used to gruesome and sensationalized coverage of events. I read the NY Post ever day for nearly 20 years for heaven's sake, but I have to say today's Times-Standard story about the fatal Bus/Pedestrian ABOVE THE FOLD article was unconscionable.
It crossed the line and the editor should have been paying closer attention. I can't say for sure if it was a "bleed and lede" situation gone rogue or if people involved with the story are just that stupid (and that is a word I rarely use). Times-Standard, shame on you.

I'm a horror writer. It's what I do, but I avoided that TS story for the same reason I avoid almost any crime related TS story: they often feel exploitive. I don't mind when a movie or book does that, but I do mind when a newspaper that is a county paper of record delves into such things. I understand what sells papers. That said, I think the TS has a twisted sense of what sells papers in this community. People don't buy it because of the stories presented. They buy it because it's the only thing around (besides the Net). I wouldn't say "shame on you" to the paper. I would say, "I expect better." And I do.
Good point, Doug. Thanks!
I've been noticing this trend since at least the past two years. I really wonder what is behind it.
Hey, if you are the same Mr Brunell I think you are you shouldn't have anything to say about being exploitive. I read two of your things set here in Humboldt and have read your blogs. Disgusting and horrific and not like stephen King horror. Dont critacize the paper for what you do.
Why not take a little time and do a manicure or mini-manicure for them and paint their nails for them? Blush also a hit with residents. A higher number of respondents with a pass rate below the national average had no limit on the number of courses that could be repeated. Half Moon Bay Ask yourself how did people living in those times control their body odor? They used frankincense. As much as possible, a CNA should have quality time to interact and provide enjoyable companionship.
