Classic Cars and Crappy Weather

Rodeo and AutoXpo are over.  It's been a busy two weeks in the Friendly City. Lots and lots of folks from across the county, state and Western region have visited Sunny Fortuna.  Except...where in the Heck was the sun?  In fact, it's been downright drizzly and cold recently.  So on Sunday, we hopped in the car, drove to Willits and found a whole skyful of sunshine.  85 degrees they say.  Driving back, we hit the familiar fog bank right around Stafford.

On the road to Willits, Spence commenced to rant to Kate about the difference between the trailered show cars streaming home from the AutoXpo and the classic cars that were actually being driven.  "Trailer Queen!", he would yell out as we passed by the expensive auto trailers filled with every manner of  vintage cars.  While, he would praise the drivers driving their pride and joys down Highway 101.  Kate just rolled her eyes saying to herself, "Yeah, Spence continue speaking out of your ass on something you know nothing about".

Kate's all-time favorite classic car is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible.  Black and white with red interior.

Spence's all-time favorite classic car is a 1960 two-toned black and white Nash Metropolitan.

Kind of tells you something, doesn't it?

Have to agree with Spence on the trailer queens. Although some are very pretty, there's a lot to be said for the tinkerers...the guys that actually DO their own work and drive the cars with pride. Sure, there are some rock chips but they can tell about the car. There are more and more "hot rods" purchased by people with means but with no mechanical talent. Understandable to know your limitations and farm out what you don't know but your really SHOULD do more than peel off a stack of Benjamins if you're going to stand with your show car.

I love the Metropolitan, too, though my craving was always a Morris Minor convertible (maybe with a small block to move it a little quicker).

Beachcomber, I had to look up the Morris Minor...YES! That's right up my alley.

Thunderbirds are the bomb classic! Though I prefer a full white exterior, Kate’s chosen color combination also looks neat. You guys are so lucky to have seen them. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to drive those!

The Nash Metropolitan is truly a classic! These are the kinds of cars you see in old movies. :D The combination of black and white is really great! It may look simple but it gives the car an exceptional touch of class.
