33-1/3

As Kate and I are talking about plans to merge our belongings into one household, there is still a large pink elephant standing in the room that neither of us is talking about.  She owns the vast majority of the belongings in the home as I started a post-divorce life with very little.  Beyond my clothing, (including stage wear), my musical equipment, boxes of family historical treasures, a tiny collection of wall art, a few books and a scant few pieces of cookware, I come with very few trappings.  Oh, except for the giant pink elephant staring at us from the center of the room that neither of us is talking about. Did I mention that?

What to do with the nearly 4000 piece vinyl record collection.   Oh, that.  Right now, it's out of sight and out of mind. But, it lurks, oh does it lurk.  There will have to be a big ceremonial purging when that day comes to decide what to do with it. Do I really need to hang onto the 1969 Archies Promotional LP from the Television Series or the 1960's Typing Instructional record with the very cool cover of a bouffanted stenographer taking notes for her executive boss?   Yes, Yes I do.

I thought vinyl was a floor covering.

The worse house fire that I ever went to was a record collectors house. Oh, and he also collected guns. It sounded like a third world revolution in a plastic factory, with big black columns of smoke. Keep your records separate from your candles.

I had a similar collection and gave it away to one of my kids high school friends bascially because I was sick of moving them. I regret doing that. I would love to have them to enjoy the covers and listen to them in a small corner of my home on an "old fashioned" record player. Atleast take the time to go through them and keep some of your most favorite. There are collectors out there who will pay to remove your elephants in the middle of the room. Good luck!
