Fortuna Rodeo Week

Rodeo Chili Cook-off Monday, July 16th
Whew, there is a big week coming up for the town of Fortuna.  All of the rodeo circuit riders from across the Western States start showing up on Friday.  But, long before that, the town is honoring the week-long celebration in a style I'm sure would make the McWhorter, Bugenig, Russ, Tooby and Smith families proud.  You do realize this is the 91st Annual Rodeo in Fortuna.

On Monday, get out your pots and pans and chili peppers – it’s chili cookin’ time.  The Fortuna Chili Society puts on the annual Fortuna Chili Cook-off along with the Chamber of Commerce.   It's fierce, it's back-stabbing, it's nail-biting....and it's  Goooooooood Eats.  The tastin' starts right around 5pm.
They're talking about getting a pretty good band this year to entertain the troops.  The Delta-Something or Others....I don't know....we'll see.  Better not get in the way of my Chili taste testin!

Tuesday, evening is the Kid's Games and Costume Contest from 6pm to 8pm at the Redwood Village Shopping Center.

Wednesday,  it's the much anticipated Street Games for the Young 'uns.  Stick Horse Race, Egg Toss, Kid's Bounce House, Kid's Dummy Roping, Tony Johnston Penny Scramble things like that from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.  Good ole Summertime kid romp.   It's also the Junior Rodeo over at the rodeo grounds.

Thursday is the rough and tumble Fireman's games pitting Volunteer Fire team against another.  Ernie Branscomb, this is your territory.  Starts at 6:30pm on Main Street.

Friday Night.....Get your full testosterone on during the Motorsports night with Stunt Bikes, ATV barrel racing and the World Famous Quadiators.  Kind of like Ben Hur for the rodeo set.

Then, it's a weekend of rodeo, pancake breakfasts, rodeo, dances, rodeo, parades, rodeo, carnival and more rodeo.  Just lots and lots of other stuff.   And, Kidnapped Tourists taken to trial at a trumped-up court and sentenced to hang.....hang around Fortuna all weekend.   We hope you can, too.
